Hi all, Marie here again. If you didn't know already, I've been filling in for Alice for the last several weeks while she's working on another project. Alice will be back soon to give you a more exciting production update, but in her absence I thought I'd give you a run down of the audio upgrades you'll be hearing in Bloodlust: Lanessa.

Also, since this is our first time doing an audio post, let us know what you think and if you have any feedback. Thanks!

First off, Marie ... thank you for pulling the curtain back even just this much on sound design/production. I have two feedback responses to what you're talking about in this reveal. Starting at 3:12 to 4:01, discussing why you want Arielle's sound to be more fantasy than realism ... I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest that both clip versions serve different purposes, and that you're right in the "realistic" take not sounding as dramatic/sexy as the "fantasy" take. However, in this particular instance I think you would have been better served by splicing the two together in an intermingling/intermittent fashion so that you'd have real/fantasy/real/fantasy/fantasy/real/real doing a sort of mix'n'match between the two takes that gets edited and spliced together after recording. That way, it isn't All One Or The Other but rather a combination of both so as to give a nod to Realism AND Fantasy together. The reason why I say this is that you're quite correct about the realistic clip "not sounding interesting enough" on its own, but at the same time the fantasy clip "goes too far" in the other direction in my opinion. If the two takes were spliced together, the variation in Arielle's sounds would immediately become More Interesting™ to hear simply because they're NOT too similar and repeating. You'd be able to hear Arielle "struggling" with Cerene's cock in her throat (the realistic bits) AND ALSO be able to hear her "enjoying that struggle" (in the fantasy bits) while at the same time keeping the overall performance from being too One Note like it is right now (after having heard both takes). Point being that 100% Realistic does not sound as good as 100% Fantasy ... granted ... but neither alone would have sounded as good as a 60/40 or 50/50 or 40/60 blending of Realistic AND Fantasy within the final clip (whatever works out well in editing). In fact, I would even go so far as to say that mixing the Realistic with the Fantasy sounds like that would have heightened the impact of the Fantasy take, simply because the Fantasy take wouldn't have been so constant/one note repeating, which would then heighten the anticipation for what the NEXT sound is going to be, particularly if you aren't following a predictable pattern of 1/2/1/2/1/2/1/2 that simply repeats with no variations to it. If you were to ... chaotically ... blend together the realistic and fantasy takes so as to use snippets of the fantasy take to accentuate and heighten the impact in time with the animation/camera views, I think you might wind up with a superior result than you could get from either alone, simply due to the variations and the sense of anticipation that those differences in sounds produce. In this case, just as a matter of production practice, I'm thinking that it would (ideally speaking) be better to do the necessary editing after the recordings (so just record for the mic "as normal" and splice it together as needed afterwards) rather than trying to do the mix'n'match of the two styles when recording. I say this because if you try to assign the different sound styles to the base recording, that essentially "locks in" that particular sequencing of sounds in a specific order as performed ... assuming you don't resplice and reorder them in editing afterwards. Anyway, just wanted to point out that I'm thinking a blending of Realistic AND Fantasy, so you have bits of both, would (I'm thinking) sound superior to what you've been doing with LotT where it was (so far) a choice between Realistic OR Fantasy that started sounding a bit too One Note Repeating when sustained over a longer runtime than just 30 seconds. So having a variation that chaotically switches between the two would be better, I'm thinking. Also, from 4:58 to 6:05, where you're talking about the large dildo+hand lotion+fleshlight sound FX ... even with the sound dialed up to absolute maximum on the player and on the computer, I could BARELY HEAR anything(!) at the very low threshold of volume for my speakers. That clip was simply too quiet to be heard. At first I thought the sound was just completely missing(!) there, but upon review I could ALMOST hear something ... but it was so faint and low volume (even while dialed up to maximum) that it might as well have been silent. Which then makes me wonder (because I haven't tested it) if the big dildo+fleshlight scenario you recorded was essentially suffering from what amounts to excessively low friction thanks to the hand lotion you were using. As I'm sure you're already aware, Marie, it's the squeakiest oil that gets to most wheels (or words to that effect) ... and what you're looking for is a loud enough sexy sound to be picked up by your microphones to be interpreted as hot 'n' sexy sounding. Now, obviously, you're still going to need "lube" for the big dildo+fleshlight to make it all work, but I'm thinking that the hand lotion you were using was simply too low friction/not sticky for what you were trying to do (and record). That then makes me wonder what alternatives you might be able to try that would produce the sound(s) you're looking for ... and the first thing that comes to mind is trading the hand lotion for pancake syrup (of all things). Yes, it will make a frightful sweet and sticky sugary mess that will need to be cleaned up after recording, but the syrup would have a might higher viscosity and friction coefficients than the hand lotion would, possibly creating a VERY different wet sucking sound when doing the very large dildo+fleshlight recording. Even better yet, the "qualities" of the syrup can be "tuned" depending on the temperature (warm versus cool, for example) since warmed syrup flows more easily than cooled does. Another alternative you could try along these lines would be use of honey(!) as lube, rather than pancake syrup, although that would be more expensive to try out I'm thinking (honey usually isn't as cheap as pancake syrup), but might be worth testing to see what kind of penetration sounds you can produce from the fleshlight when using different lube(s) that are stickier than hand lotion (which is meant to be very low friction and therefore very low noise in this context). Just like the more main stream behind the scenes info with big budget films, I love discussions like this. Part of the reason I patronize some of my favourite creators is for stuff like this. That said, has anyone considered sound effects that are more hyper-real (unreal?), like the Miro's animation style? The sound Terrible Fairy uses is probably the easiest example to point to; both the tgrrl's heart rate, and cum are audible during climax in his clips. Definateley unrealistic, but very effective for ampping up the scene. ^_^

I think we've done a little bit of heart rate once before, and it added a nice effect, so we'll definitely consider it again in the future. We had a few tries at cum sound effects for royal descent but are yet to find one we really like. We'll keep looking and will check out Terrible Fairy as well. Thanks for the suggestion! =) -Marie

Thanks Marie! Such a beautiful voice, so soft and smooth… UwU The audio WIP update is a great idea I really hope to see more of them in the future. The insight into the production process is highly appreciated. The general sound design and voice acting has indeed gotten a lot better in recent times. My current favorite is from the “AS04_CyPunk_anim03_up1_audio” animation. The first 7 second are just incredible, the great sound design paired with the soft moans of both Cerene and Sophia… just INCREDIBLE! I really hope we get to hear more of that kinda sound design / voice acting, yeah super intense stuff is nice and definitely has it’s place but the soft moans and generally more relaxing sound design give the whole animation a feel of intimacy and eroticism. As wonderful as it is listening to Marie, I found this "update" as an update, pointless. I mean, the last (underwhelming) update for BC was in March and while it is reassuring that things are being improved on the audio side, is this really that mind-blowing for anyone? More so because I'm sure there will be something similar during the two week time waster event. This really comes of as a wip train post just to say one was made because people have been getting antsy, rather than something actually significant or worthwhile. All this secrecy for a porn project is already a joke but if this turns out to be more of the same, with all the things smaller artists have been doing, oof. It can't all be for nothing. Sorry, couldn't help myself. Talk about epic disappointment. About the short BC bit in the clip. Is that final? I really hope not. Sophia sounds too young and I know I don't have full context for the scene but her line feels off. The delivery being flat aside (REALLY hope it's not final) I can't help feeling like it would be better coming from Lanessa or Cerene. Like, She's (so) eager to put it to good use. Dumb, I know. :P

there isn't a whole lot more I want to reveal in wip updates until release, so the wip updates we post are going to be some what limited, until the release event it's going to take quite a bit more time due to my heavy involvement and other critical projects, so rather than heavily promoting a title that's not ready yet and string up premature hype we're focusing on content that we're currently delivering if you can't understand my approach and if that's a situation that frustrates you, I think it's time to cut lose

It's the right approach. You've clearly run out of content to showcase WIP content of. The well has run dry and to show anything else would be spoiling large chunks of what's probably going to be 20-30 minutes worth of content (hopefully). It seems like some artists really fall prey, if not to feature creep, then to having their hands in too many cookie jars and spreading themselves too thin on dessert without finishing their dinner first. It's a very common ocurrence and it's a little disheartening to hear it's happening here. I hope you find a solution, maybe do a transparent postmortem after release, because it sounds like throwing more money at the problem isn't helping the efficiency of the main projects after almost 10 years in business. 😐

Ok. Soooo why even continue the wip updates? You just proved what I said about posting something just to post SOMETHING. It honestly just comes off like crumbs for the peasants, if you will. I get the approach and personally, don't have a problem with the shift in what your focus is here. I just think it's incredibly silly going dark on Blood Crown and won't be at all justified if it isn't going to be raising the bar from previous efforts. Also, showing little bits of a wip here and there is not "heavily promoting". It's literally just showing what's being worked on or has been worked on. Are you heavily promoting G4E 2 by showing Tara wips? No. Sure, you don't HAVE to show anything you don't want to. It's just a nice gesture. Plus, it gets the community involved and allows you to get feedback, within reason of course. No huge changes unless everyone agrees something isn't that sexy or interesting, then you would have to decide one way or the other. Instead of doing the usual, finish EVERYTHING and then get the feedback afterward. As for longer cook time, totally fine with me. I'm firmly in the, delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad camp and feel it applies to most things. Did I seem frustrated? I thought I came off pretty level headed. yes, we may suspend wip updates for while if we run out of ideas and yes that's the balancing act of not showing too much so that it doesn't turn into hype to early, but keeping things interesting enough so that it's worthy of a wip update but as you can see, something that you thought of as pointless many enjoyed... and if you we weren't frustrated, then great :)
